Join Dr. Lacey Long, Program Administrator at the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, Office of Specially Designed Services, and Nicole Swartwout, Parent-Infant Program/School-aged Outreach Coordinator for North Dakota School for the Deaf, for an informative webinar titled "Understanding Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Eligibility Under IDEA," designed for educators, special education teachers, and support staff. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of Deaf/Hard of Hearing as an eligibility category in North Dakota and Deafness/Hearing Impairments under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Participants will explore hearing screening, the importance of early identification and referral, and the impact a differentiated hearing level can have on student learning, language, and development. They will delve into the specific eligibility criteria for Deaf/Hard of Hearing, the assessment processes involved, and the critical role of the teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing (TOD) in determining eligibility for special education services.
By the end of this session, participants will be empowered with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring a more inclusive and accessible educational environment for all.
Credit Option:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will earn half an hour toward the required 15 hours for credit.
