The ND Science of Reading Hotline was an open forum series facilitated by the South East Education Cooperative during the 24-25 school year. This series offered a virtual space for educators to connect and collaborate once a month, while also providing NDSoR updates.

This course is comprised of nine modules where participants explore key literacy topics through videos and selected resources. It aims to elevate instructional practices and connect participants with high-quality resources and ongoing support. You are free to complete the modules in any order, but must complete all modules in order to earn a certificate of completion.


Course Objectives

At the end of this course, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of the Science of Reading, including how the reading brain develops and how this research informs effective literacy instruction.

  • Interpret the Instructional Hierarchy and assessment data to make informed, data-based instructional decisions across grade levels.

  • Recognize and respond to diverse learner needs, including dyslexia and adolescent literacy challenges, using evidence-based practices.

  • Evaluate current literacy practices, identifying contrary practices and understanding the role of de-implementation in improving outcomes.

  • Use instructional materials intentionally to better align classroom practices with research-based literacy instruction.


This course is worth 8 hours. You may be able to use these hours toward Cafeteria CreditLinks to an external site.through VCSU.
