Full course description
Reading Diagnostic Assessments
This course supports educators in maximizing instructional time by effectively using diagnostic reading assessments to identify specific skills where students need additional support.
As educators, we know that we must screen in order to intervene. While benchmark assessments are necessary and valuable, they are not designed to provide all of the information educators need to make targeted instructional decisions. Diagnostic assessments help bridge that gap by providing a deeper understanding of individual student needs and helping educators determine appropriate next steps for instruction and intervention.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Understand the purpose and role of reading diagnostic assessments.
-
Evaluate multiple curriculum-agnostic reading diagnostic assessment tools.
-
Analyze diagnostic assessment results to identify specific student skill needs.
-
Use assessment data to inform targeted instruction and intervention.
-
Create a practical plan for implementing reading diagnostic assessments within their instructional setting.
Continuing Education Credit
Participants who successfully complete this course will earn 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). These CEUs may be applied toward Valley City State University (VCSU) Cafeteria Credit in accordance with VCSU Cafeteria Credit requirements.
