Instructor: Ashley Sailer
Full course description
Welcome!
Welcome to Vintage Innovation, a professional development course based on John Spencer's book of the same name. Throughout this course, participants will explore the idea that meaningful innovation is not simply about adopting the latest technology, but about thoughtfully combining timeless educational practices with modern opportunities to enhance student learning. Through reading, reflection, discussion, and application activities, participants will examine topics such as divergent thinking, analog learning, empathy, information literacy, community connections, imagination, deep work, curiosity, and information curation. As the course progresses, educators will consider how these concepts can be applied within their own classrooms and ultimately design a lesson inspired by the Vintage Innovation Toolkit. By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of how to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences that prepare students for success in an ever-changing world.
Important: This course requires participants to purchase or obtain access to Vintage Innovation by John Spencer. The book is the primary course text and will be used throughout all modules. It can be purchased from Amazon or Powell's Books. It is also available for free to Kindle Unlimited members.
